The Bridge Foundation, along with the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Dallas (SCDAD), are hosting their first annual 5k Walk/Run-a-thon. The event takes place at River Legacy Park in Arlington, Texas on October 4, 2008 at 8am. We need your support so that the SCDAD can continue their great successes within the community.
Background
The Bridge Foundation (BF) is a non-profit organization founded with the mission “Building Bridges for the Uplifting of Our Community.” This mission is based on the understanding that our future lies in the hands of those who shall follow. The goal of the organization is to provide programs that offer education, awareness, enrichment and other resources to a demographic area where awareness/education and/or enrichment may not be available or is very limited. The mission is simple: be consistent in a movement; thus creating a medium (Bridge) for those who are not provided information and opportunities to cross over to those who do, “building” a brighter future for the community, the city, the country, and ultimately the world. The Bridge Foundation often partners with other non-profit organizations across the Dallas/Fort Worth area to maximize it's impact on the community. The foundation actively provides support in the DFW community in many areas, such as, assisting in feeding the homeless, donating school supplies to low income families, donating clothing to shelters, and installing smoke alarms with local fire departments. We feel that providing sound positive leadership, by example, supports (our) four basic principles: Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift.
The Sickle Cell Disease Association of Dallas came into existence in the late 70’s per the growing population of Dallas/ Fort Worth. Initially created as the Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation of Dallas, the Dallas County Medical Society and the Dallas Urban League propose an awareness program of this magnitude for the purpose of bringing awareness to the community and impacting the lives of individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease.
Since 1983, the State of Texas has more than 70,000 newborn babies diagnosed with the sickle cell trait and more than 2,600 with the disease. In an effort to sufficiently meet the needs of the Sickle Cell Disease community, the SCDAD currently implements four (4) major programs driven by the vision of their founders. Their programs are: Screening & Testing, Public Outreach & Education, Case Management and Genetic Counseling. In addition, they influence our local and national partners to further support their ability to provide the following services: Support Groups, Stress & Pain Management Seminars, Community Service Referrals, Blood Drives and Sickle Cell Educational & Achievement Tutorial.
To join our efforts contact your co-workers and friends to become your sponsor. We need individuals like you to help raise funds for the fight against this disease. Should you decide to participate (but without a sponsor, registration fees are $20.00 per person or $100.00 per team with a maximum of six people). Or you can go to our website www.Bridge-Foundation.org and make your donation or complete your registration.
